Animal Guides

About these guides

Animal Viewology is about looking closer at animals: how they hunt, hide, travel, think and survive. Our guides are written in plain English and checked against trusted public sources such as the IUCN Red List, natural history museums, zoological societies and published research.

How we handle facts

  • Sizes, speeds and lifespans are given as typical ranges, because individual animals vary a lot.
  • Conservation status is listed only when we are confident of the current IUCN category. Statuses change, so check the Red List for the latest assessment.
  • Where scientists still disagree (for example on how many species a group should be split into), we say so.

What we do not do

  • We never encourage touching, feeding, chasing or keeping wild animals.
  • Pet pages are general education only and never replace a qualified veterinarian.
